When will it end? F1 Round 10 - Azerbaijan

Welcome back to another race report in Season 15. This week was Round 10, and we kicked off the back 9 with a trip to the glorious city of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. All 3 F1 divisions were in action and there were plenty of questions to be asked - will the McKeon winners streak continue? Will the Div 2 title protagonists come together again? And who will come out on top in a tight top pack in Div 3? All is answered below!


McKeon Division


Qualifying

Lap 3 & 6 incident involving TTM Crowding - penalty removal request

Verdict: Request approved, 3 seconds removed from TTM Crowding

Detail: On review it was clear from the evidence provided that Crowding only should have received 2 warnings from the instances of exceeding track limits on Lap 3 and 6, rather than the 5 he received for the 2 combined. Therefore the 3 unwarranted warnings have been removed, leaving him with 3 warnings rather than 6, so 3 seconds have also been removed.


Lap 14 incident involving Ba1myTick, Topg1159, AJNOLAN754, RustedBolt3021 & THATGUY691244

Verdict: 15s + 3LP to THATGUY691244 (converts to Qualifying Ban + 3LP due to DNF)

Detail: Upon review, the stewards have agreed to this penalty due to ThatGuy causing incidents at both T1 & T2, the first caused by turning into Bolt at Turn 1, pushing him into the barrier on the inside, and then the second caused by him going too deep on the brakes into the corner, causing a domino affect which caused not only himself but 2 other drivers terminal damage.

Lap 16 incident involving Joseeeph F1, AD4M F13 & F1ABQW3RTYYY

Verdict: 3s + 1LP to AD4M F13

Detail: The stewards feel that even though it is very unfortunate timing, the movement left by Adam momentarily after Qwerty begins to attempt the overtake is what causes this incident and the damage to Joseph. Although not intentionally so, the stewards feel this movement can be considered reactionary by the Sauber and therefore dangerous, and so the penalty has been applied.


Lap 16 incident involving I CJT22 I & Pavlison

Verdict: 2LP to Pavlison

Detail: After losing his entire front wing, Pavlison actively defends his position from CJT, going defensive into multiple corners and nearly causing a crash. With such extreme levels of damage, the stewards feel that Pavlison drove dangerously in front of CJT here. They believe that he should have done the sporting thing of letting him through and drive safely back to the pits to repair the damage, rather than defend his position like this with such damage on his car. Therefore, a small penalty has been applied, which will also hopefully set some expectations of how we expect drivers to drive with significant damage.


Lap 19 incident involving GoldenEggFryer & J Lee Menz

Verdict: 15s + 3LP to J Lee Menz

Detail: Menz misses his braking point on the approach to turn 3 and plows into Fryer's left rear tyre. This knocks Fryer into the wall rear wing first, and as a result he sustains race ending rear wing damage.


Lap 25 incident involving LSW L3G3ND44 & AD4M F13

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards believe that Legend has initiated the contact and as a result it destabilised Adam going into the braking zone. We feel he's turned for the optimum line when there's a car alongside. It's unfortunate he's sustained damage, but the stewards don't feel that Adam can be punished for this.



Division 3

Lap 16 incident involving SLR Xynew & Nealix

Verdict: 5s + 1LP to Nealix (2LP only due to DNF)

Detail: The stewards agreed that Nealix should have yielded the position under blue flags a lot sooner than he did, and so have decided to apply the penalty. Regardless of whether ghosting is enabled or not, a driver must not abuse ghosting. If you have been given blue flags by the game, unless you are clearly quicker than those behind you and in a situation to unlap yourself, you must yield the position as soon and as safe as possible.



And that concludes another hectic round of racing, and hopefully that also concludes our run of hectic races with lots of crashes and incidents! Maybe not however, as next week we head to Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix. Here's what could happen this at the Red Bull Ring...
