Coastal Carnage at Zandvoort - F1 Round 3

Welcome to the third F1 report of the season, and this weekend the calendar took us on the short trip from Belgium to the Netherlands, and specifically the coast of the North Sea and Circuit Zandvoort as we prepared for the Dutch Grand Prix. A tough circuit full of tight and twisty turns, it has recently become a favourite for many drivers. A surprise addition to the calendar going off of previous votes, clearly it has recently become more popular. With the coastal breeze and an ever-present chance of rain, we knew we were in for an exciting weekend! Here's what happened in the Netherlands!

Lap 3 incident involving GoldenEggFryer & THATGUY691244

Verdict: 5s + 2LP to THATGUY691244

Detail: THATGUY broke too late going into the chicane and such took too much speed into the corner, causing a collision with GoldenEggFryer and giving him damage.

Lap 22 incident involving Threefold1232

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards reviewed the footage, and never once did Threefold's left tyres fully cross the white line. Because of this, the stewards are happy that this was a completely legal pit lane exit, and such see no reason to penalise.

Lap 1 incident involving HazeeLN4 & multiple drivers

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards were in agreement that they would be unable to penalise this incident as they felt that this was an unfortunate Lap 1 incident with no driver at fault. This was a chain reaction to a minor moment from a driver ahead, and such the stewards felt it would be best not to penalise here.

Lap 2 incident involving Joshboshman & Lansiee23 (including Ryanh1000 & HazeeLN4)

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards were in agreement here that no penalty should be awarded to any driver here. Lansiee had to slow down as he was given the illegal overtake warning by the game as Josh overtook him and quickly gave the position back under the VSC. This then caused the pile up between the 3 drivers. The stewards believed that no driver was in the wrong here and such they could not be penalised.

Lap 12 incident involving LRS-#78Nello & EVVOR94

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards were in agreement that this is very unfortunate for Nello, however Evvo did not have a lot else that he could have done due to there being another car on his inside. This then causes him to go wider and Nello being the furthest ahead may not have seen that Evvo had someone alongside him also.

Lap 13 incident involving LRS-#78Nello & BGR_SXPERI-74

Verdict: Race Ban + 5LP to BGR_SXPERI-74

Detail: The stewards believed the initial contact between Sxperi & Nello was quite unfortunate as it seemed that Sxperi lost traction after having to go on the kerb, beaching his car and spinning into Nello. However what followed was inexcusable, after getting damage Sxperi flat-lines the next corner, taking out another driver in the process, and then retires on track. Hence, the stewards have decided that a race ban is the fairest punishment for this.

Lap 21 incident involving HazeeLN4 & Pavlison

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards could tell that this was clear that Pavlison had damage here, however they felt like for this incident specifically, Pavlison should not recieve a penalty. He had a small traction moment and Haze attempted to capitalise, but the stewards felt that Pavlison did not go defensive here, and it was merely attempting to correct the car.

Lap 24 incident involving OwenHowell36 & Lansiee23

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: Upon review the stewards decided not to penalise here as this seemed to be 2 different lines coming together, made to feel worse for Owen because of the circuit's 'not-so-straight', making it seem like Lansiee has turned into him but in fact he was just following the edge of the track, and he couldn't get any further left.

Lap 26 incident involving HazeeLN4 & Arb0n EPA

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards believed that for this incident no penalty should be given as there was space for Arbon to attempt the overtake, however Haze then closed this space whilst Arbon was alongside which caused the collision.

Lap 27 incident involving HazeeLN4 & Arb0n EPA

Verdict: Warning to Arb0n EPA

Detail: The stewards feel that this was slightly naughty from Arbon moving across as much as he did, however they understood that Arbon was still attempting to regain control of his car at the time due to the conditions. They have decided that this was to be a racing incident as no positions were lost and no contact was made, but would like to note that this likely would have been a penalty if contact was made.

  15. OWR snoozer (DNF)

  16. WillyBum7 (DNF)

  17. Nealix (DNF)

  18. Alexr21200 (DNF)

Lap 17 incident involving matty1929, SparkHashira & Hubbadee

Verdict: 3s + 1LP to SparkHashira (1LP due to DNF)

Detail: The stewards believed that Hashira went a bit too hot into the second braking point, meaning that he took too much speed and lost control of the car, causing the collision with Hubbadee and Matty.

Lap 23 incident involving matty1929 & l 21 l Maxwell

Verdict: 10s + 1LP to l 21 l Maxwell

Detail: The stewards understood that there was not a lot that Maxwell could have done about the re-join as he was not in control of his car at the time, due to the incident just before. However they have decided that Maxwell was at fault for this incident due to him pushing Matty off track and onto the kerb, causing the initial collision, which then lead to them colliding with each other again shortly after. The stewards decided to slightly reduce the standard penalty due to Maxwell not being able to do much about the re join, however the action previous still caused a chain reaction resulting in Matty receiving terminal damage.

Lap 23 incident involving SLR Laney & Lord_Beans08

Verdict: No Further Action

Detail: The stewards felt that Laney was anticipating Beans to take this corner flat out and ignore what the racing line says, which is a very dangerous thing to do especially in division 3. The stewards felt that it would be very harsh to penalise Beans here as he is just following the racing line.

And that concludes what ended up being one hectic weekend in the Netherlands. If you thought that wasn't enough, next up we head to Northern Italy and specifically the historic Autodromo Nazionale Monza for the Italian Grand Prix! See you there, where the below could happen...

... Ba1myTick (90th all time) could reach 400 SLR F1 points if they score 22 points.

... DNBSuperSkiilz (111th) could reach 300 points if they score 2 points.

... SLR Laney (114th) could reach 300 points if they score 10 points.

... EIIis 37 (165th) could reach 200 points if they score 16 points.

Also congratulations to the following drivers who reached these race milestones in Zandvoort:

... Oli Matthews, SparkHashira, EVR Willsy & Bjarni_Olsen all raced for the first time in SLR this weekend, taking the overall drivers in SLR history to 689.

... ZachIsBeast25 is now the outright highest races completed after he raced for the 261st time.

See you in Monza!
